Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the tour leave from?
-Galveston Hurricane Tour is provided by appointment only. Your tour can start anywhere, but a good starting point is Rosenberg Library, at 23rd and Sealy.
How long does the tour last?
-The tour lasts 90 minutes
What is transportation like on the tour? Are we in an air-conditioned vehicle? Can we walk some parts of the tour?
- The tour now is completely customized for you. Ideally, most of the tour is done by vehicle, with some sections open for walking if you prefer. Three people can fit inside our newer model vehicle, but larger groups work better as stand-in tours, where Hurricane Hal can take a vacant seat inside your SUV/ van/ shuttle.
Where can we use a restroom?
- Restrooms are available at Rosenberg Library. You will have opportunity to use restroom before or after the tour, but not during tour.
How may I book a tour?
- Book a tour through email request. Email: [email protected]
May I pay with cash or credit/ debit card at the time of the tour?
- Payment is by cash only in person at the time of the tour
What time should I arrive for the tour?
-Please arrive at least five minutes before the tour
Will we encounter an angry elephant?
- This is quite unlikely!
Does the tour focus more on science or history?
- The tour focuses on both science and history. Galveston is fascinating because extreme science (hurricanes) has impacted a place with great historic and cultural value. So it's not really possible to understand the impact of the extreme weather around here without understanding the cultural and historic context.
Why has nobody done a hurricane tour before in Galveston?
- This is a great question! Galveston is a living laboratory for hurricane impacts in a historic setting!
Could this tour be offered to school groups?
- The Houston-Galveston corridor is one of the great science corridors in the nation. Hurricanes are a very visible example of the power of science/ nature. We are very interested to partner with regional school districts and offer customized tours during the school year.
